Thiruchittraru Divyadesam familiarly worshipped as Thirucchengundrur Imayavaramban Temple is located in a small village called as Chengannur near Kottayam in Kerala which dates back prior to the period of Mahabharatha. It’s one among the Pancha Pandava Temples, dedicated to Dhrama Rajan – Elder Brother of Pandavas. Hence it is also worshipped as Dharma Rajan Temple. The Pancha Pandava Temples located in and around Chengannur and they are Thirupuliyoor Sree Maayapiran Perumal Temple ‐ Bheeman Temple, Thiruvaaran Vilai Sree Parthasarathy Perumal Temple familiarly Aranmula ‐ Arjunan Temple, Thiruvanvandoor Sree Paambanaiyappa Perumal Temple ‐ Nakulan Temple and Thirukodithaanam Sree Athpudha Narayana Perumal Temple‐ Sahadevan Temple. These temples are known as Anjambalam. Anju means Five. Ambalam means Temple

During the Gurukshetra War Guru Dhronacharyar was killed by adopting a trick and Dharma Rajan was forced for that. Due to this, Even though Yudhistra was not at fault, he considered himself responsible for the incident. To wash away his sins, Unhappy Dharmar wanted to do some remedy for his action and as a result of this he came down here to this place and underwent a severe penance towards Sreeman Narayanan as Imayavarappan here seeking pardon for his act on the battlefield. Pleased with his sincere prayers and heartfelt repentance, Imayavarappan absolved him of all his sins. It is strongly believed that anyone who worship Lord Imayavarappan here will be absolved of all their sins. Pushkarini is Sangu Theertham on the left side of the temple. Moolavar Imayavarappan is blessing in His West Facing Standing Posture with Weapons in a Circular Shaped Sanctum Sanctorum. Thayar is blessing as Sengamalavalli Thayar. Lord Ayyappan and Kosalai Ramar sannithis are located in the outer sanctum. In January Bhagavatha Sapthaham is being performed for seven days. From Ashtami Rohini Day for ten days Dasavathara Charthu Mahotsavam is being celebrated during which every day for the entire 10 days the Idol will be depicted in the form of His 10 Incarnations ( Dhasavatar ) using sandal wood paste and other rituals are performed in grand manner. Mandala Makara Vilakku period is being celebrated from November to January.

Significance and Uniqueness of Thiruchitraru Imayavaramban Temple - Thiruchengundrur ‐ Moolavar Imayavarappan forgives all the sins of His devotees. He blesses the devotees to stick with good qualities like Peace, Loyalty, Justice Truth' etc. Statue of Lord Maha Vishnu here is Unusual and Very Unique. Usually Maha Vishnu holds His Conch in His Left Hand and Discus in His Right Hand. But here its Right Opposite. He Holds His Discus in His Left hand and His Conch in His Right Hand.
