Thiruvaranvilai Divyadesam - Aranmula Parthasarathy Perumal Temple - Pancha Pandava Kshetram Worshipped by Arjunan
On the 18th Day of
Gurukshetra War, the wheel of Karna’s chariot got stuck in the ground an d was not
able to proceed further. Chariot’s driver Salliyan refused to take out the wheel from the
ground. Hence Karna got down and engaged to take out the wheel, he kept his
weapons aside. Karnan was weaponless. As instructed by Krishna, Arjunan killed him while
he was unarmed. This made Arjunan very sad and could not excuse himself. He came
here at the end of the Gurukshetra war to undertake penance repenting for killing
Karna and his relatives, It is the place where Pandavas hide all their weapons in the Vanni
Tree during Pandava’s life incognito. Arjuna got himself cleansed of all his sins with the
grace of Thirukuralappan, who blesses in His Standing Posture facing East. Temple
Vimanam is worshipped as Vamana Vimanam. Sage Veda Vyasa and Lord Brahma Devar had
the darshan of the Lord. Aarattu Vizha id being celebrated in a grand manner here in
Aranmula on the Day of Thiruvonam Star in the Tamil Month of Thai.
Once, two demons Madhu and Kaidaba snatched the Vedas
from Brahma who sought the grace of Lord Perumal to recover them. Perumal
destroyed the demons and recovered the Vedas. Brahma performed penance here on
Perumal as a token of his gratitude to Lord. It is here Arjuna hid his weapons in the
Vanni tree. Sthala Vriksham Vanni Tree is very special and unique here in
Thiruvaranvilai Divyadesam. The nuts falling out the tree is being collected and sold
nearer to the temple’s flag post. Devotees buy these nuts, rounding them to their head
three times and throwing the same away. It is strongly believed that, this procedure
make them to get relieved from all the diseases and make them to live healthy. Even
the sick people are being brought here to do these procedure. It is believed the thrown
nuts attacks the diseases and destroy as the arrows of Arjuna. There is a Golden Idol of
Lord Parthasarathy, installed and worshipped by Arjuna here. Hence the temple is familiarly known by the local people as Parthasarathy Perumal Temple. The Holy River
Pampa passes through the Northern Entrance of the temple. Prathyaksham was given
to sage Vyasar and Lord Bramma Devar. Once the Twin Demons named Madhu and
Kaidabar snatched the Vedas from Bramma Devar. Paranthaman destroyed the
Demons and recovered the Vedas. As a token of Graditude, Bramma Devar underwent
a penance here and got blessed with Paranthaman;s Prathyaksham. The Famous
Aranmula Boat race is being taken place every year in the Pampa River which flows
