Thirumoozzhikkulam Divyadesam - Sree Lakshmana Perumal Temple - One Among the Nalambalam
It
is believed that the idol in the temple is that of Lakshmanan, brother of Sree
Rama. After defeating the Demon Ravanan, Sree Rama started ruling his kingdom. Sree
rama sent his brother Lakshmana and Bharatha to know about the issues in their
kingdom to sort it out. Lakshmanan came down to Thirumoozhikkulam and met a
Mahirishi named Hareetha. Rishi reminded Lakshmanan about the incidents happened
in Chitrakoodam, when Bharatha came there to meet Sree Rama. But Lakshmana took
that in a wrong way and assumed that Bharatha came to kill Sree Rama. He used the
harsh words and quarreled with Bharatha.By recollecting the incidents Lakshmanan felt
ashame and requested the Rishi for the repent. He underwent a Tapas here in
Thirumoozhikkulam. There is a
beautiful 8 structured lamp with Periya Thiruvadi Garudalwar on the top in the main
entrance of the temple. Dwajasthamba – Flag Post too has Garudalwar on the top. It is
believed that Lord Maha Vishnu preached Sreesuktham to Hareedha Mahirishi here in
Thirumoozhikkulam.
Once Four Idols were discovered by some fisherman here. They
handed over the idols to Namboothiris, who in turn installed the same in various places
on the river banks. These idols are the statues of Sree Rama, Lakshmana, Bhrathan and
Chathrukanan. It is believed
that the idols installed in these temples were worshipped by Lord Krishna
at Dwraga during Dwpara Yuga. These four temples are colectively worshipped as Nalambalam. Nalambalam means a set of four temples in Kerala, dedicated to Sri Rama and his three brothers., Bharadha, Lakshmana and Sathrughna. Thirumoozhikkulam is the temple dedicated for Lakshmana. Nalambalam Yatra has to started from Sree Rama Temple followed by dharshans in Bharadha Temple, Lakshmana Temple and finally in Sathrughna Swamy Temple. One day pilgrimage to these Nalambalam Temples during the malayalam month of Karkkidakam, called by the people of Kerala as Ramayana Masam ( July - Aug ), is believed to get blessed with prosperity. A strogly belief in Kerala is that reciting Ramayana during this period is believed to keep away all the discomforts and agonies and the great epic verses have the power to build self confidence even during difficult times. It is also believed
that Parasuramar consecrated the Moolavar and Lakshmana constructed the Mandapas
and its vimanam. As Sreesukthi Thirumozhi had been preached by the Almighty
here, temple is being worshipped as ThiruMozhiKalam and later as ThiruMoozhiKalam. |
