Thiruvanandhapuram Divyadesam - Trivandrum Anandha Padmanaba Swamy Temple
Once a Rishi named
Bilvamangala Swamigal had been doing pooja performances to Lord Maha Vishnu and
the Salakramas which he had. One Day during his pooja timing a young child had come
there and he disturbed the sage a lot. Annoyed Sage hit the sage and the child started
running from his place. Sage started to chase him and finally reached a place called
“Anandhankadu”. There he did not see the child but hearing the sound of his anklets.
Suddenly, an iluppa tree fell down with the huge noise indicated the sage that that was
the place of Padmanaban. Finally sage had dharshan of Lord Anandha Padmanaban with HIS Four
Arms lying on Adhiseshan in His Grand Reclining Posture. Padmanaban was in an
extensive form and His Holy Body was in Trivandrum where as His Holy face was in a
place known as Thiruvallam about 8 KM from Trivandrum and His Holy Feet was in a
place called as Thirupappur about 12 KM from Trivandrum. By having a Darshan, Sage
got delighted and requested the Almighty to bless him in His Small form so that he
can offer poojas. His wish was obliged and Bilva Mangala Swamigal offered the
poojas to the Almighty in a smaller form. Being in the forest with no other option,
Bilva Mangala swamiyar offered naivedhyam of rice kanji along with salted mango
pieces to the Almighty in a coconut shell during the morning pooja. To mark this holy
event, even today, it’s a custom that naivedyam is being offered to Moolavar Anandha
Padmanaban consists of rice kanji along with salted mango pieces in a coconut bowl. There are three
Theerthams here which are called as Matsya, Padma and Varaha Theerthams.
Temple Vimanam is "Hemakunda Vimanam". |
