Thiruvelukkai Divyadesam - Sri Azhagiya Singar Temple - Thiru Vel Irukkai Yoga Narasimhar Temple
Goddess Saraswathy sent a dangerous demon named Kapilasuran, Lord Vishnu took the form
of Narasimahan and destroyed the demon. “Vel” means wish and “Irukkai” means the
residing place. As the Almighty after defeating Kapilasura felt happy and decided to
stay here forever as He wanted to protect His devotees from all evil forces As always,
Hence the temple got the name Thiru Vel Irukkai and later as Thiruvelukkai, where
Almighty is blessing as Aal Ari and Mukundha Nayagan. There is no
Raja Gopram here and it is a very small temple with just 3 Sanctum sanctorums, one for
the Almighty, one for Thayar and the third is for Garudalwar. It is believed that during Narasimha Avatar, Almighty after
destroying Hiranyakasibu strarted chasing the asuras who came to help the Demon
Hiranya Kasibu. Finally He reached this place and waited the Asuras to come back. But
He is blessing here as Yoga Narasimhar and not as Hiranya Samhara Narasimhar. Desigan praised his Kamakshiga Ashtagam on Azhagiya Singar.
