Thiruvanparisaram Divyadesam Thiruvaazhmaarban Temple - The History
The Ledend – Vibheesanan, younger brother of the Demon Ravanan, after attending
Sree Rama Pattabishega Celebrations in Ayodhya came down to Sreerangam where he
kept the idol of Atanganathan in the Banks of River Cauvery. Due to this incident, He
was annoyed a lot and on his way back to his kingdom he came down here to
Thiruvanparisaram and offered his prayers to Thirukuralappan. Pleased Almighty
appaeared bfore hima and granted a boon. Vibheesahanan requested the Almighty to
worship Sree Rama again. It is believed that Lord Maha Vishnu provide His Dharshan as
Vibheeshana as Sree Raman. Hence devotees can worship Sree Rama, Sita Devi and
Lakshmana to the right of Moolavar here. Thiruvanparisaram is the birth place of
Udaya Nayagi, mother of Nammalwar. Being childless she underwent a penance for 41
days as instructed by Thirukurungudi Nambi. As a result Nammalwar was born to her.
Once Sapthe Rishis underwent a penance near Suchindram to gave Darshan of Lord
Maha Vishnu. But they were redirected by Him to continue their penance here in
Thiruvanparisaram and provided His darshan to the seven rishis. After Hiranya
Vadham ( Killing of Hiranya Kasibu ) Lord Narsimhan was in an angry mood. To make
Him calm down, Mahalakshmi underwent a penance here. Prahaladha requested Lord
Narasimhan to search for Goddess and He came down here on his search. By seeing His
Consort, HE felt and became Shantha Swaroopi, Mahalakshmi is said to have requested
the Almighty to provide her a place in his heart which the Almighty also accepted.
As Goddess mahalakshmi resides in His chest here in Thiruvanparisaram, He is being
worshipped as Thiru Vaazh Marban. As requested by Hanuman, Sage Ahasthiyar is said
to have described the entire story of Ramayanam here for the benefit of the devotees.
To mark this event, Devotees can worship Anjaneyar with folded hands addressing
Sage Agasthya, who is in a seated posture opposite to him. Vibheeshanan and
Kulasekara Azhwar are also seen here. Nammalwar can be worshipped as a small child here to
the left of Thiruvazhmarban, which is an unique feature of Thiruvanparisaram. Temple Tower is
Indra Kalyana Vimanam. Temple Tank is Soma Theertham and Lakshmi Theertham.
