The day came for Gajendra Moksham. The King in the form of an Elephant went to the Holy tank of this temple to take water and pluck the flowers for his daly prayer to the Almighty. At that time, the Demon who was in the form of Crocodile pulled the Elephant’s legs. Astomished Elephant seeking for the help, being an adherent devotee of the Almighty called “Adhimoolame”. Pleased Paranthaman sent HIS Discus - Sudharshan Chakra to cut the head of the Crocodile.
At Last both the Demon and The King got blessed by Him. Almighty gave prathyaksham to Siriya Thiruvadi Hanuman here as Sreeraman.
Kabi means Monkey, as He gave darshan to Lord Anjaneya this temple is being worshipped as Thirukavithalam familairly Kabisthalam. Moolavar is blessing in HIS Reclining Posture - Bhujanga Sayanam facing East. The temple vimanam is being worshipped as Gaganakruthi Vimnam. One of the Azhwars, Thirumazhisai Azhwar praised the Almighty as “Aatrangarai Kannane” Means Kannan who is reclining on the banks of the river.
Pancha Krishna Kshetram
Thirukavithalam is one among the Pancha Krishna Kshetrams. The other four are Thirukannamangai, Thirukannapuram, Thirukkovilur and Thirukannangudi. This is the only Divydesam among the all where Prathyaksham was blessed to the two non humans, Elephant and Crocodile. Like Thirukannamangai devotees can see a group of Bees live near Thayar Sannidhi. |
