Thiru Pavalavannam Divyadesam - Sree Pavalavannan Temple
Once when Lord Brahma Devar wanted to carry
out an “Ashwamedha Yagam” so that to get blessed by the Almighty in His Viswaroopa
Posture ( Ref the legend pertaining to Kanchi Athi Varadhar Temple ), he was not
concerned about the support from Goddess Saraswathi and proceeded to conduct the
yagam alone. Goddess Saraswathi got aggravated and started to trouble Brahma Devar
and his Ashwamedha Yagam. She sent a group of asuras to destroy the yagna. Lord
Brahma in turn requested the help of Sreeman Narayanan. To save Lord Brahma Devar and his
yagna from the asuras, He destroyed all the asuras sent by Goddess
Saraswathi during which the blood of asuras sprained all over His body and had given
Him the colour of Red like Pavalam - The Ruby and He has been blessing here as Pavalavannan.
Very near to this temple devotees can worship a temple called Pacchaivannan Temple. Birugu Mahirishi – Once the rishis at Naimisaranyam underwent a yagam for the
welfare of the universe and finally got confused to whom to give the Avirpagam. They
were advised by Naradhar to find out who has the most of Sathvaguna, means very
much pleased to the devotees and to give the Avirpagam. Rishis requested Birugu
Mahirishi to go around all the three logams, Brahma Logam, Kailayam and Vaikundham
to find out the one who has the Sathvaguna and eligible to get the Avirpagam..
Accordingly Biruhu Muni wnet to Brahma Logam where he saw Lord Brahma Devar was
quiet buzy in his creations and not had not ime to spare with the mahirishi. After that
Birugu went to Kailayam where he was not even noticed by Lord Eswaran. Annoyed
Mahirishi finally went to Vaikundhaml where he saw paranthaman in Yoga Nitthirai.
Aggravated Biruhu kicked the Almighty on His chest. Woken up Paranthaman did not
get angered but surprisingly asked the Mahirishi whether his legs were hurted by the
kick. Biruhu Muni felt ashamed of his act and wanted to atone for his shocking act.
Paranthaman advised him to to undergo a penance at Kanchipuram and later gave him darshan as Pavalavannan in the same form in which Bhrigu Maharishi darshaned Him
at Vaikuntham An idol of Bhrigu Maharishi can also be worshipped inside the
temple. In the Tamil month of Thai, Fridays are very auspicious to worship Thayar here in Thirupavalavannam. |
