Once Goddess Mahalakshmi felt that the Almighty is very much attached to Bhoomidevi. She sought for the help from Dhurvasa Mahirishi. Later, Dhurvasar came to this temple Thiruperai Temple and found that Goddess Bhhoodevi was sitting on the lap of the Almighty and had not paid any attention and respect to the mahirishi. Dhurvasar, well known for his temper, cursed Bhoodevi and she lost all her beauty and her beauty and colour became like Mahalakshmi. Frightened Bhoodevi prayed the mahirishi for the salvation. Dhurvasar then told her to p[erform the penance at Thenthiruperai and also to take a holy bath in the temple theertham "Sukra Theertham". One day She slipped her hands together on tank to offer Arghyam to the Almighty, iShe saw two striking earrings of fish shaped and settled on her hands. She offered those earrings to the Almighty. Hence the name "Makara Nedunkuzhai Kadhan’. As Bhoodevi had taken the form and colour of Mahalakshmi, this place had the name ThiruPeari. There is one more Divyadesams in the name of "Thiruppernagar" near Trichy, hence this temple is worshipped as Then Thirupperai"." Once Varuna Bhagwan was defeated by the Asuras and Varunan lost all his weapons. This was happened as earlier Varuna Bhagwan insulted his Guru. To receover all his lost weapons, Varunan underwent a penance here in Then Thirupperai. Pleased Almighty gave him His Prathyaksham on a Full Moon Day in the tamil month of Panguni and blessed Varuna Bhagwan with all his lost weapons. It is believed that, to thank the Almighty, every year varunan comes to here and worships the Almighty ion the full moon day of tamil month panguni. |
